About the Director
Hi, my name is Lisa Delo. I'm originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area, and I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Grove City College in 2001, with a minor in Vocal Music. I later completed my Master's in Education from the University of Scranton, PA, and became a National Board Certified Teacher. With over 20 years of experience in the classroom ranging from grades K-12, I have a deep passion for music. I am excited to share this love of Music with your children as we intend to grow our program. With your support, we plan to offer band and chorus at the middle school level and additional programs where there is interest such as school-select choirs, praise and worship groups, and more!
I've had the privilege of serving as a music director in my previous parish and have been involved in various praise and worship groups. Throughout my life in PA and MD, I've directed and participated in large-scale musical productions and was a member of the Blazing Star Chorale Society. I even had the honor of performing with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, I've been an assistant director for Best Foot Forward with NHC. I've been deeply involved in professional and community ensembles and have been teaching private voice and piano lessons for over 30 years. At present, I'm engaged in the music ministry and serve as a catechist at All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead, NC, where I've been an active member for 18 years.
On a personal note, I'm a proud mom to two wonderful children, Lena and William, ages 22 and 16. Lena graduated from Hoggard High School in 2020 and pursued Esthiology at the Aveda Institute of Portland. She now owns her own business, The Lena Glow, and also manages the Monkey Market in Wilmington. My son, William, is currently a junior at Hoggard and is in his 3rd year in the Marching Band. He's a fantastic musician and brings so much joy to our lives!
In my free time, I enjoy MUSIC! I enjoy singing and playing all kinds of music! This is my passion. This work is something I have always dreamed of doing. I also volunteer with the Hoggard Marching Band. You may see me running the concession stands at the Friday night football games! I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and going to the beach, but most of all I am so grateful for my Faith in God. I know He has brought me here for a reason. I am so Blessed by His goodness every day. Thank you for sharing your children with me. May we all learn to share our gifts and talents and live our lives worthy of the calling WE have received!
When we sing, we are praying twice!
Pre-K- 2
In general music classes for grades pre K-2, students will explore the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and harmony through engaging activities. They'll learn to identify and create different sounds using various instruments, sing simple songs, and move to music. These early experiences help develop their listening skills, rhythmical coordination, and a basic understanding of musical concepts. By incorporating games, stories, and hands-on exploration, students will build a foundation for musical appreciation and creativity while enjoying the collaborative and expressive nature of music.
Grades 3-5
In general music classes for grades 3-5, students will delve deeper into musical concepts and skills, building on their early experiences. They will explore more complex rhythms and melodies, learn to read and write simple musical notation and begin to understand different musical genres and cultures. Students will also have opportunities to play instruments, such as the recorder and the ukulele, sing in harmony, and engage In group performances, which enhance their teamwork and leadership skills. Through these activities, they will develop a greater appreciation for music, improve their listening and critical thinking abilities, and foster their creative expression.
Grades 6-8
In grades 6-8, students in band, chorus, and introduction to rhythm classes will refine their musical skills and deepen their understanding of music. In band, students will learn to play various wind, brass, and percussion instruments, focusing on ensemble performance and technique. Chorus participants will develop their vocal abilities, explore harmony, and perform a range of choral music, enhancing their sight-reading and aural skills. Introduction to rhythm classes will emphasize rhythmic patterns, timing, and coordination through drumming and other percussion activities.
